A Brother's Vision was inspired by a young man who is legally blind — living with a condition that limits his central vision. He still sees the world, but through his peripheral vision. His daily life is a testament that vision loss is not the end of possibility. It's the beginning of a different kind of seeing.
What began as one family's search for support has grown into a community of thousands — of every age, background, and level of vision. We advocate for people who are totally blind, people with low vision, people with progressive eye conditions, and every journey in between.
We exist because independence is a birthright, and no one should have to fight for it alone.
Understanding vision loss
Legal blindness is defined as visual acuity of 20/200 or less in the better eye with correction, or a visual field of 20 degrees or less. Many people who are legally blind still have usable vision — including peripheral, light, or partial central sight.
Low vision refers to significant vision loss that cannot be fully corrected with glasses, contact lenses, medication, or surgery — but does not meet the threshold for legal blindness.
Vision loss can be present from birth or develop later in life from conditions like macular degeneration, retinitis pigmentosa, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, or Stargardt disease. Every journey is different — and every journey deserves support.
